The fruit, whose all parts and juice are very bitter, is green when raw, orange-red when ripe, 10-20 cm long, shaped like a large shuttle. It has an indented, ridged and rough surface. When ripe, the shell is bent back to reveal numerous red, brown or white seeds. The seeds (kernels) are 7-10 mm long, flat and rough.

It is also widely used by cosmetics due to the presence of compounds such as saponins, resins and essential oils.

Nigella is a perennial herbaceous plant from the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae), reproduced from seeds. It likes sandy loose soils, requires water until the flowering period and then it is not watered. Seeds ripen in the cone (capsule) as in the poppy plant. The seeds are 2-3 mm long, 3-surfaced, non-matte black in color. It is not a very oily seed.
